A rare representation of Siddhartha, sitting here under a tree. The figurine is in very nice condition, with imperfections at 2 ends of the branches, see picture 7.
Marked, A.A.Fatimah. A Fatimah (Buleleng) is the name of an art dealer that traded all kinds of Balinese art objects. The name is often confused with that of the artist because in the case of wooden sculptures the name of the artist sometimes stood next to it, as in this case the artist is, W.J. Purne from Mas (and numbered 681). The name Fatimah first appears as a little girl who survived the last widow burning in Bali in 1903. The archives state that she had a difficult childhood, but eventually gained a place in Balinese folk life by dealing in art. In this she was very successful. Her daughter later took over from her and added an extra A; A A Fatimah.
