Nice old sacrificial box. Bali, mid last century Circa 1940s. Length 36 cm. Total height including figures 36 cm. Width 16 cm. Made of heavy djati wood. Total weight 3.3 kg.
The box is painted in the traditional Balinese main colors Red, Green and Gold. The design of the box is based on the mystical idea of the three worlds.. The underworld is represented by Bédawang the turtle that carries the world on its back. The upper world is represented by two Nagas (Anantabhoga and Basuki) that are nagged around the box. The Singha on the lid is also part of it. In front of the world of gods is the figurine of probably Visnu. On both side panels Floral motifs in gold. Such sacrificial boxes were carried by the women on the head, in procession to the place of the various festive celebrations.
