Kruseman, 1867, 1870 and 1873 - (24), 243 (2) + 43 illustrations + (16), 246 (2) + 42 illustrations, (18), 239 (8) (1) pp. +19 illustrations - Blind stamped red linen bindings with gold print - Volumes, 43 x 32 cm.
In good condition. Th extremities of the spines are reinforced with linen tape as are the corners of the covers (see photos). A few blemishes on the covers. Tape remnants on the cover pages. The text blocks are discoloured, a blemish here and there. Foxing throughout the text block, especially heavy around and on the protective paper at the illustrations, that themselves have hardly any foxing. A tear in a dozen of the protective papers (one large of approx. 6 cm) and various wrinkles in and/or double folded protective sheets. A few dogears.
Book block of the ‘Hel’ split between pages 160 and 161, the three following sections loose on the bottom. The book block is otherwise affixed to the binding.
Contains a total 0f 104 wonderful illustrations, an illustration of the bust of Dante and a portrait of the author. All are pictured.
Complete set of three volumes with the gorgeous illustrations by Gustave Doré.
Has never been available in retail.
The set weighs approx. 16 kilograms.
