Princess - 2200 HLS - 1977

Offered is this very rare Princess 2200 HLS with manual transmission from 1977 The 18-22 series 1975-1981 by British Leyland began its life as a choice from Austin, Morris and Wolseley models before it was dubbed with the regal Princess name. The name was 'borrowed' from Austin and Vanden Plas, which led to confusion about the origin of the car, and so the Princess became better known by the nickname 'Wedge'. This referred to its distinctive shape, designed by Harris ‘Mr Allegro’ Mann, which was more radical than any BMC or BL car that had come before. With front-wheel drive and a spacious interior - thanks to transverse engines, including a six-cylinder engine - it was a world away from its rivals Cortina and Granada. However, it was also a world away from Ford in terms of quality. Although it was intended as a hatchback, they were afraid at the time that it might steal sales away from the Maxi, which is why it was fitted with a boot. The 2,226 cc engine is a 6-cylinder inline engine that runs well. The 4-speed gearbox shifts well. The car is equipped with POWER STEERING. The dashboard is finished with real wood and is in fine condition. The driver's seat is showing wear. The gas springs of the rear valve do not work properly. The rear wheel arches show corrosion. The trims that are not mounted at the right side under the doors and wheel arch will be included separately. The vinyl roof shows small tears. The Princess comes with various documents, from a Dutch instruction booklet to two magazines with extensive articles. The car was originally supplied in the Netherlands and has been in the hands of one and the same owner ever since 1996. It is recommended to view the car in Veenendaal (the Netherlands) before placing a bid to prevent any disappointment afterwards. Please contact Catawiki to schedule an appointment.
