Two leather straps, each with 11 horse brasses from an English pub. They have served as decorations.
English Horse-brasses (decorations for a horse's rig) were originally intended to ward off evil forces like an amulet. These horse brasses come from an ancient tradition from before the Middle Ages (and were used by the nobility at tournaments and at the Guilds, and also used by farmers when hunting). They bear images characteristic for their relative activities.
These are 22 different ones, with motifs of animals, castles, hunting symbols and nautical scenes.
The horse brasses are approx. 8 cm in diameter and they are forged or hammered. The total weighs approx. 2 kg. They are original and they date from the 2nd half f the 19th to the early 20th century.
This lot has been carefully cleaned and will be packaged with care and shipped by registered and insured post (with track & trace code). Pick up is of course also possible in Ridderkerk (South Holland), the Netherlands.
