Ad Bakker was born in Zwijndrecht (the Netherlands) in 1937 but has been connected to Dordrecht since his youth.
He draws, paints and writes. He already managed to capture many well-known and lesser known places in the city. They are bundled in several books that he had published. They are full of illustrations, images of pen drawings and watercolours. Mostly they are landscapes, but cityscapes of the ‘Drechtsteden’ are also well represented.
Ad Bakker is an artist who worked on his pieces outdoors in nature. He is therefore "of an older generation", not taking pictures and working in a studio, just being outside, in the city and amongst the people, cold or not!
