Romain Steppe (1859-1927) was a Belgian painter.
Realistic painter of river landscapes and marines. Pupil of E. van Hoorde, Ch. Boland and I. Meyers. Works mostly along the banks of the Schelde and the North Sea. Also paints in the Limburg Kempen, England, Netherlands and France. In 1887 returned to Antwerp. Creates in small size but strong images. Also paints seascapes on ivory. member of the art society "Als Ik Kan". Retrospective in 1996 in the Verhaerenmuseum in Sint-Amands. Mentioned in the Belgian art books. Internationally known painter.
Signed on the back, but unreadable to me.
Oil on thick oak panel (16 x 23.5 cm) in good condition.
With frame (27 x 19.5 cm) in good condition.
