Garuda is a mythological creature: partly human, partly bird. He is the mount of the Hindu god Vishnu. In Khmer mythology, he is also of the Hindu god Krishna, but only if it is depicted as an avatar of Vishnoe. He is also the King of birds and is a descendant of Kasyapa and Vinata, one of the daughters of Daksa. He is also the arch enemy of Nagas. He has taken this over from his mother, who once had a quarrel with Kadru, a sister of hers and married to Kasyapa like herself. Kadru is the mother of a thousand Nagas.
