Willy Schurman was educated by Godfried de Groot and was a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam (1964-1970).
Willy Schurman started his own photo studio in 1937 on the Laan van Meerdervoort in The Hague. He is one of the first photographers in the Netherlands to focus on advertising and business photography. Between 1954 and 1962 he was the photographer of the royal family. The image comes from the photographer's personal archive, which includes original photographs of Queen Juliana, Prince Bernhard, Queen Beatrix, and Princess Margriet.
Collaborated with Cor van Weele, John Hakkaart and A.C. Verkoren. Was a member of the Nederlandsche Fotografen Kunstkring (NKF), amongst others.
