This picture book is called ”Momochidori”. 15 prints introducing many kinds of birds with Japanese poem of thirty‐one syllables.
On the right side of the woodblock is a pair of quails and Japanese poem about this birds.
Males have high legs and short legs are female.
On the left side of the woodblock is a skylark and Japanese poem of thirty‐one syllables. Directly translating this poem, it means, “Even a cloud sparrow that goes up as expected in the sky may fall at night.”
Kitagawa Utamaro is famous painter. He sharply elicited the various psychology of women by finely drawing subtle facial expressions and finger gestures created by women's eyes and nose.
