Franciscus Willem (Frans) Helfferich (1871 - 1941) - Eendenkuikens aan het water
Franciscus Willem ('Frans') Helfferich (The Hague, 2 September 1871-6 November 1941) was a Dutch painter. He worked in the style of The Hague School, later with strong influences of Impressionism.
Helfferich studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, where he would continue to live most of his life. In addition, he often worked 'en plein air' in the hills of southern Limburg.
Initially, Helfferich worked mostly in the style of Hague School and painted landscapes. He was strongly influenced by Jacob Maris, whose work he also copied. Later he used a looser pencil stroke and made many 'frivolous' impressionistic scenes of modern city life in the ‘Hofstad’.
The work comes from a private collection and is framed in a beautiful handmade frame.
