One excellent set of St. George Chessmen.
Knife sharp rings, maple or boxwood, simplified heads on knights, strongly undercut rooks. The set is varnished - and quite old.
Two pieced knight.

Named after the St. George's chess club in London who patronized this style for play in their club activities, this style has lasted well into the 20th. Most turners or manufacturers in 19th C England produced chessmen in this style.
St. George variations were also made in Germany and possibly even in France.
