Written by the French orientalist Louis Dubeux (1798-1863) and published in Paris. This well-illustrated work deals with all aspects of Persia (now: Iran).
Including fine views of the famous city of Ispahan and other places, rulers, common people, folklore, utensils, ancient monuments, coins, as well as two large, folding maps of ancient Persia, and of the country in the 1840's. It is one of the better illustrated books on Persia in the 19th century. Forms a part of the series, l'Univers, but it is the only volume dealing with Persia.
Boards remarkably well-preserved for such an old book; only some light rubbing, and chipping at the spine ends. Some text leaves and plates are bit foxed - but mostly in the margins only. Small label on the front paste-down; old stamp on the title page, otherwise a very good copy, complete with all the 86 plates (several larger, folding) and two folding maps.
A complete copy with the original binding mostly intact, such as this one, is very uncommon.
