This antique crucifix comes from a church and was owned by the Right Reverend Priest Gilbert Verhaeghen from Nieuwenkerke Waas (Belgium).
An oak cross with golden lily ends, preceded by 4 golden depictions of an angel (Matheus), eagle (John), lion (Marcus), bull (Luke).
In the middle of the cross there is the monogram of I.H.S. (Isus Honinum Salvator) which is surrounded by an eight-pointed star in combination with an equilateral cross, this is an early Christian symbol and represents Christ the incorruptible light of the world.
A Corpus Christi in polychrome terra cotta that has obtained a beautiful crackle over the years.
This corpus' long loin cloth is also special.
Much attention has been paid to the physique, also striking is the serene look of the dying Jesus.
The corpus measures 60 cm. And the width is 44.5 cm.
Because of the size and the fragility, this image can only be collected in Izegem.
